Linking a Key Result to an External Goal

Some numbers already live somewhere else: a revenue goal in HubSpot, a delivery goal in Atlassian, a people goal in BambooHR. Instead of copying them into Engage by hand, an administrator connects the platform once and an owner links the key result to the goal. Engage then reads the value itself.

Connect the platform

Under Admin, Organization, Objective Marketplace an administrator adds a connection for each platform with that platform's credentials and presses Test to confirm them. Credentials are stored encrypted and are never shown again in full.

Link a key result

When a connected platform can be read from, an unlinked key result shows Link to a goal under its row for anyone who may edit it. Choose the platform, search for the goal, and pick it. Engage pulls the value immediately, so the key result shows a real number and a synced time straight away.

Reads are enabled platform by platform. If you do not see Link to a goal on a key result, none of your connected platforms can be read from yet.

What a linked key result looks like

The row shows a chip with the goal's name, the platform, and when it last synced. The value is read-only in Engage because the platform is the source. Open the goal on the platform from the chip, or press the chip and choose Unlink and edit by hand to take the number back.

How the sync works

• Every night Engage reads each linked goal and writes its progress to the key result, along the key result's own range. A goal reported 50% complete on a key result going from 30 to 120 reads 75.
• A closed goal completes a milestone.
• Every synced change is recorded in the key result's history with the source integration, like any hand-typed change.
• If a pull fails, the chip turns amber and names the error. If a platform rejects its credentials, the whole connection pauses until an administrator re-saves it.
