Approaching an employee about low scores requires empathy and curiosity, not judgment. This lesson provides a framework for these sensitive discussions.

Start by sharing that you want to understand their experience, not reprimand them. Ask open-ended questions and listen more than you speak.

Avoid making assumptions about the cause. The employee may reveal factors you were completely unaware of that explain the scores.
