The Feedback Sandwich and Other Myths

The "feedback sandwich" — positive, negative, positive — is one of the most widely taught and least effective feedback techniques. This lesson explains why.

People see through the sandwich. They either fixate on the criticism and ignore the praise, or they dismiss the praise as insincere padding. Either way, the message gets muddled.

Instead, be direct and specific. If you have positive feedback, share it on its own. If you have constructive feedback, share it clearly without burying it between compliments.
